Understand What a Loss Would Mean
Could a market decline delay retirement or force you to sell investments to cover expenses? Investment risk management means identifying those exposures and deciding how to address them before they disrupt your plans.
At Daner Wealth Management in Alpharetta, you work directly with Marc Daner. We review your holdings together, consider money you will need soon, and adjust the investment mix as needed. No investment strategy can eliminate the possibility of loss.

Balance Your Comfort With Risk and What You Can Afford to Lose
Feeling comfortable with market swings does not mean a large loss would leave your plans intact. Your ability to take risk depends on the money you have available, your obligations, and when you need to spend it.
A high income can help you save, but you still need money available for expenses. If a bonus falls or a job ends while investments are down, you may have less room to wait for a recovery.
Look for Concentration Across Your Holdings
Owning several funds does not necessarily spread your risk. They may hold many of the same companies or favor the same industry. A successful investment can also grow into an outsized share of your wealth.
Employer stock deserves particular attention because a setback at one company can affect both your paycheck and your investments. We consider that connection alongside executive compensation planning.
Selling shares that have gained value can create a tax bill. We weigh that cost against the risk of continuing to hold a large position.
Plan for Withdrawals Before a Downturn
A tuition payment or tax bill does not move just because markets fall. Money needed soon requires attention to both price swings and how readily you can access it.
As retirement approaches, a decline may affect when you can stop working. Once withdrawals begin, taking money from a falling portfolio leaves less invested to participate in a recovery. The timing of losses can therefore affect how long savings last. We connect investment decisions with retirement income planning, including other income sources and expenses your portfolio must cover.
Recognize the Risks in Conservative Holdings
Moving away from stocks changes the risks you face. Bonds and bond funds can lose value when interest rates rise, and some issuers may fail to make payments. Cash can lose purchasing power when its return trails inflation.
These tradeoffs matter when choosing how much to hold in each category. Our asset allocation strategies connect that mix to your goals and timeline.
Keep Risk Under Review
New employer shares, changing income, or strong growth in one holding can alter your exposure. Risk management continues as those circumstances change.
Through portfolio management, we monitor investments, rebalance as needed, and revisit whether the strategy still fits. Daner’s approach uses global diversification and does not depend on market timing. A plan made before a decline gives you a basis for decisions when headlines are unsettling.
How We’re Paid
As a fee-only firm, our primary service is comprehensive financial planning and investment management for an annual fee based on the assets we manage, generally around 1% on a tiered scale. For prospective clients who are considering our ongoing wealth management services but aren't ready to commit, we also offer the option of developing an initial comprehensive financial plan for a one-time, flat fee. We don't earn commissions from selling investment or insurance products. We'll walk you through exactly what that means for your situation before you commit to anything.

Why Work With Daner Wealth Management
Marc Daner has worked with clients in the Atlanta area for more than 30 years, and holds both the CFP® and ChFC® designations.
Daner Wealth Management is a fee-only, independent Registered Investment Adviser, which means we aren't affiliated with a brokerage or insurance company, and we're held to a fiduciary standard that requires us to act in your best interest. We don't sell annuities, insurance products, or in-house funds, and nothing we recommend earns us a commission. For clients who want an advisor required by law to put their interests first, that structure matters.
Investment Risk Management Questions
No. Several types of investments can fall together. Diversification reduces dependence on particular holdings, but it does not guarantee a profit or prevent losses.
A market drop alone does not determine the right move. Selling changes your exposure and requires a later decision about when to reinvest. Review your cash needs and whether your circumstances have changed before making a decision driven by the decline.
Yes. Outside retirement accounts and company shares can affect your overall exposure. Considering those holdings in the plan does not mean we manage or trade them directly.
